In its fourth decade of dedicated developmental action, Chetanalaya has been persistently swearing the oath of restoring and strengthening the lives of the poor, deprived, under-privileged and the marginalized in their struggle for survival. It has been working with a vision of facilitating a society where communities are able to meet their survival needs, make their own choices, and lead a self-reliant and sustainable life with dignity. Since its inception, Chetanalaya has been successfully helping such communities in improving their quality of life. Youth being an important area of attention, Chetanalaya has reached a new state of youth oriented programmes towards the development of the deprived and marginalized communities in the remotest areas of Delhi & Haryana.

Chetanalaya helps in providing a platform for capacity building of community youth on different rights based issues. About 3000 youngsters have reached from the slums and resettlement colonies of Delhi and interior villages of Haryana through various awareness and civil life training programmes. 65 youth groups are formed in various intervention areas who through their regular meetings and inspired interventions, strive to transcend beyond the boundaries of caste, religion and political orientation for the creation of new India.

Skill development and self employment promotion through the Chetanalaya community college is another flagship programme through which the youth in the slums and resettlement colonies of Delhi and Haryana villages. Affiliated to National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), and approved by government of India, Chetanalaya community college offers around ten courses in its 48 vocational education centres. These centres run job oriented courses which are of six months to one year duration. Embroidery and fashion designing, cutting and tailoring, beautician, computer education, two wheeler repairing, AC, refrigeration and electrician trainings are given to youngsters. Chetanalaya community colleges not only impart highly job oriented quality education, but also empower the students with life scoping skills that would give tem an edge in the present day life..

Vocational education programmes have ensured that the energies of these youth are utilized in much useful ways. Young girls who often don’t complete education and stay confined at home are also part of these skill trainings and have been able to be independent economically.
